Urban Explorer Series: Tom's Travel Itinerary

“To me, an urban explorer is someone who is true to themselves and seeks out various facets of the city that they can personally connect with. They are not easily influenced by the opinions of others and prefer to seek these experiences on their own and decide for themselves.”

There is no greater pleasure than indulging in great food with great company, and Mr. Tom Haydon, Founder of Tom’s Pasta, can attest to that. As our June urban explorer, the chef and entrepreneur let us in on his top 5 favourite places to wine and dine around London. Spend a day following Tom’s recommendations as he embarks on a culinary tour through London.

Papo’s Bagels

Owned by a couple from New York, this eatery serves up proper New York-style bagels. They do this perfect Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese bagel that is a must-try!

OREN

This neighbourhood restaurant bar features a seasonally changing menu of sharing plates inspired by the Mediterranean. I was on the way home from work when I stumbled upon this restaurant. I ordered a beer and some chicken thighs and could instantly tell what great quality food they serve.

Rasa N16

It is one of the best-known vegetarian restaurants in London, specialising in South Indian food. They serve authentic Keralan vegetarian curries and snacks, and I absolutely love this style of cooking. It is just beautiful Indian food prepared in a unique way that you don’t see often.

The Empress Pub

Located in Victoria Park Village, this 19th century gastropub serves up a Modern British menu. You can just sit outside and have a nice chat with your mates over good food and wine.

The Quality Chop House

Opened in 1869, this is one of London’s longest-running establishments serving modern British cuisine. I dined there for the first time in 2014 with my brother and have been going back twice a year ever since because I enjoy it so much.
