Urban Explorer Series: Sonya's Travel Itinerary

“By being an explorer, you take yourself out of the main character in that story and allow the experience to really come through. In doing so, you are taking a step back and letting the experience teach you something.”

We sat down with this month’s urban explorer, entrepreneur and Founder of Like Minded Females Network Ms. Sonya Barlow, to understand how it is humanly possible to juggle so many hats in a day. She tells us her secret lies in her greatest asset: her energy. Though she may be a powerhouse and a force to be reckoned with in her industry, she is still human and so we wonder where she goes in the city to relax and replenish her fuel. Here are her top 7 picks of places to visit in and around London. Follow her recommendations now:

Richmond

For a sweet escape from the city, Sonya enjoys spending the day relaxing in Richmond, known for its Royal Parks and gardens, historic houses, theatres, museums, and galleries.

Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

For a truly immersive experience, Sonya recommends you visit the Royal Botanic Gardens. Named a World UNESCO Heritage Site, the gardens house more than 50,000 different plants in their living collection and over 7 million preserved specimens.

Turnham Green tube station

One of Sonya’s favourite streets in London is right outside of Turnham Green station. As you come out of the station, turn left and you will stumble upon a beautiful street that Sonya reckons “feels different”. Do keep in mind not to visit during the rush hour as it is bustling with people and traffic.

Spitalfields Market

This is a great place to relax, unwind and indulge in a world of gastronomy. Sonya likes to try the variety of foods from different stalls, where you can truly enjoy yourself.  The best part is that it is covered so that you can explore it rain or shine.

St Katharine Docks near Tower Bridge

Though St Katharine Docks is Central London’s only marina and has evolved into a thriving waterside community with numerous places to dine and shop, Sonya finds comfort in sitting here in peace and enjoying a nice lunch.

Windsor

One place that Sonya visits regularly is Windsor, a town on the River Thames in southeast England that is renowned for Windsor Castle. However, Sonya believes that there is so much more to this town than its castle. Windsor itself is surrounded by the Great Park, as well as an array of local shops, businesses, and restaurants worth visiting.
